We all need to reflect on the lives we lead at times, and we should continually monitor how the world and the tasks that we are asked to perform makes us feel. My parents always said that “your health is the most important thing in the world”, next to family.
Having spent many years in Mainframe Computing, Commercial Contract Management and Financial Governance the time came for me to reset my priorities with due regard for my core beliefs and principles.
I will look to provide more personal information here a little later.
Mental Health
The focus of this page is to provide some information on the Mental Health Landscape (MHL) of Brighton, Hove and East Sussex.
NHS England has been in the news recently, and the Integrated Care System (ICS) is adjusting to change. What this means for those looking to provide care under the banner “excellence in the community” has yet to be decided and made known publicly.
Suicide and Sectioning are clear indicators of how a society is functioning. It is vitally important that we keep a close eye on these metrics, and how they may relate to waiting times and ‘care in our community’.
A link will be added here to look into developments in this area.
Sussex Community NHS Foundation Partnership Trust (SCFT)
I was elected Public Governor for Brighton and Hove almost a year ago. I commenced my role in April 2024, and was pleased to be appointed Deputy Lead Governor after a couple of months.
This year two new Public Governors have been elected to serve the interests of the Brighton and Hove public, and I welcome them on board. We have a lot to plan and do following their induction this month.
The SCFT prides itself on diversity and inclusion. Governors are encouraged to become involved with community groups, and to represent the interests of the public at board meetings.
Their main office is at Brighton General Hospital (BGH). This site is historic, and has been used as an important hub for health care in Brighton for some time.
The future of the site is being discussed, as remote working is being developed and housing needs given the priority they deserve.
A link will be added here to the official SCFT website soon.
Neurodiversity
BGH is where I was introduced to the great work of the Neurodivergent Pathway Team.
While I attended two workshops I was pleased to meet a number of individuals diagnosed under the Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) umbrella. Some of these people also had ADHD.
The workshops were very informative, and very well managed. This led to a Neurodivergent Working Together Group (NWTG), and in turn Impact Initiatives (IA). Meetings with various groups were also hosted by Brighton and Hove Council (BHCC).
I will look to provide another link here to highlight current activities, with regards for the MHL.
Brighton & Hove Council
I attend the Autism Partnership Board (APB) facilitated by Brighton & Hove Council (BHCC). It serves to host meetings of various groups in Brighton, and to further the interests of Autistic and Neurodivergent Individuals.
The APB invited speakers from the NHS in March, with a focus on progress relating to the development of the Neurodivergent Pathway (NDP) in 2025.
I have since become involved in the Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) for the Integrated Care Service (ICS) in Sussex.
Recently I was invited to provide feedback on ‘accessing council services’, and will be looking to follow up on the invite in the very near future.
A piece of news that I found interesting can be found in this Council Proposal . I was looking for another link at the time, and love the way the web can lead us down new rabbit holes🐰 🕳️ ⛳
To be continued…
