James Story – ” The Road Less Travelled”…

A Short story about a moment in the life of an individual with complex needs.

James was born in Ireland at a time when the world was changing. He was one of five brothers, his gender confused by the Priest at his funeral.

*Rewrite in progress, please return later!*

Introduction

James is taking part in a LEAP exercise, the Scope of which he does not know. His Request For Information (RFI) is pending…

Considering the exercise may help progress the development of a Neurodevelopment Pathway, he elects to continue, and submit his Persona for the exercise.

This was not expected to be a difficult task, as he had managed a very popular and successful Drama and Variety Group in Ireland for the best part of his life, before the introduction of TV stole his audience.

Part of him is uncomfortable with the idea. That said, part of him also knew it was necessary if things were to change for the better.

Artistic & Unstable

His Autistic and Emotional Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) had not been diagnosed – and he had no support. His first born had barely survived his twin birth, his sister died after a brief and painful 20 minutes.

James was quick to temper, and at times his rage would find its place in a fight.

He married the most beautiful and talented actress on his show, who was also very intelligent.

Signposting had provoked his anger. It was confused, leading in many directions for the service he wanted. He spent to much time looking for information online, to see documentation which appeared to change overnight.

He was happy to note that it appeared to be getting better, 5 years later after his son first accessed it. Clearly A and the team were working hard trying to cut through the diversions political confusion caused by allocations to commissioning teams.

His son was angry to receive a call from a call centre which advised his referral had been given to their Wellbeing Service, and wanted him to make an appointment – he learned that their ‘help’ would not feed into his Neurological Behavior Team nor ATS in a report, and so the hamster wheel turned, exhausting him.

He felt like he was being driven mad. That or he was trapped in some form of purgatory before the gates of his true bell opened.

Pause… and keep it live 💕 🐾

Later he found his symptoms were most likely the result of Autistic Burnout, and C-PTSD.

This was no real record of his mental health journey that he could see reflected in his Patient Summary Record – something to raise with his GP Office Manager, as he thought they should have one. This came to light as he tried to make a PIP application, concerned that his Glaucoma would steal his sight before he could get his feet back on the ground.

Trauma

Trauma centred support was top of his list, that and a Needs Assessment to help his Homeless Prevention Officer (HPO) address his Accommodation issue.

Financial stability is a key factor. The fact that he did not have a formal Needs Assessment at this stage clearly broke the law in his mind.

He knew that an assessment had become complicated by the fact that all the rules, guidelines, and laws that were in place were in the process of being rewritten. This was a feature of the Post COVID-19 and Brexit Reset.

Reset

The world slowed down, and people worked from home. It was quiet, with time to reflect.

Systems had to change, and once that happened there was no going back.

Suicide

He was aware of two suicides, acquaintances, who had left this world early. Their engagement with Mental Health Services had not helped them, it may even have made matters worse.

He found things getting worse, so he joined his local NHS, with a view to putting his skillset to use while addressing his cognitive decline.

Complex Needs

The Past, Present, and Future are in Scope. People are complex, living in a complex world, and health service providers were confused and unwilling to put themselves at risk legally. The public have been known to ‘bite the hand that feeds’.

Corporations and Governments protected themselves by establishing legal entities and outsourcing. This process mitigated the risks involved. Closer to home they have their Human Resources (HR) and Legal Departments.

Neighbourhood Teams is the latest initiative spawned by the Government to address the Crisis In Healthcare and to help implement it’s 10 Year Plan – before it can be implemented, a large number of the population will be dead, across many diverse communities, acceptable losses for the greater good some might say.

The Churn – of human resources within Call Centres is something know and accepted in business. The NHS is on the verge of becoming a business, and is using Data to build its operating model.

We must look at – Background, Present Circumstances, and the Future Needs of individuals within the community. The Scope of Neighbourhood Teams. to develop an Health Care Plan. Everyone should have one, to insure they are getting what they need, when they need it.

If James is going to share his story – and try to put all the pieces together in Real Time. The following factors need to be taken into consideration:

The Present – Now

The Future – Tomorrow, over the next 5 years

The Past – Background, to serve as a source for the above.

Persona Alison: She had a ‘Client Base’ as a Resource in the development of her Report.

Background

S/he was the surviving premature twin, introduced to the world as a weak Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) with very little chance of following in his parents footsteps. They supported him, telling him to ignore his different perceptions and to accept the fact that all people are unique. This advice did not really help him to fit in with young children.

The Shadow of his Twin walks with him, and at times he feels more like a sister than a brother. He wants to explore both mindsets to achieve an holistic balance.

Autism

This condition made it difficult for him to accept society.

ADHD

This condition made it difficult for him to focus.

Psychosis

‘Masking’ involved the development of a Persona which was acceptable to the immediate community.

‘Identities’ involved the management of Personas which were acceptable.

Source

His life was on ‘fast track’, with a view to absorbing as much experience as his limited timeframe would allow. Autistic (ASC) individuals have a shorted lifespan than Neurotypical People (NT), who created a world difficult for very sensitive people to accept.

Starting a family young gave him a chance to focus on his children rather than fall down the Black Hole he first looked at when 8 and was drawing him in as he approached 18. It worked until they were old enough to become more responsible for their actions and associated outcomes. By then they had started their own private and personal journeys through life. He had to let them go, his mind did not have the capacity for their thoughts, and he was afraid he would only make matters worse.

He pushed against the odds, and it worked out well for a while. Then something happened, driving home the fact that he could not control the future. TAROT reading was great for signposting, and for giving you a ‘sign’ for where to focus ‘intent’ to ‘get things done.’. The predicted outcome was still most likely going to happen, unfortunately.

At 8 he first thought about giving up on the path ahead, at 64 he had seen and learned a great deal. Now he just wanted to die in peace.

However the world is governed and controlled by many forces, and relationships can be pedantic, so his ‘exit plan’ was still not clear. His children were estranged, and living in a world that was looking at Mars for survival. What a beacon of light humanity is….

A ‘Leap of Faith’ had seen him engage with a local group, to find the best way to help frame the world for his children as they grew older, and to find him an immediate exit point.

Diagnosed

After a long wait for an appointment following his GP Referral for Asperger’s Syndrome, he was finally diagnosed under the Autism Spectrum Condition umbrella. His condition finally given a label, he looked to see what support was available.

To make matters worse, it was not a Comprehensive Neurological Assessment, in that ADHD had not been recognised and Bipolar might also be considered. Following a Persona exercise, he found himself looking at split personalities, and the possibility of Psychosis. Dementia; now that would really be the icing on the cake. How could he take life seriously?

It was not all Black & White he knew, the World was looking to reset since COVID-19 and Brexit.

He had submitted so much personal information by now, that he had no need for GDPR, In fact it could even be a barrier to him getting the help he needed. He liked the idea of Transparency and getting it all out in the open. No room for greedy selfish people and corporations looking to hide away from social responsibility. Tax Havens should not exist, all MPs and other Corporate Bodies (from a legal mindset) should be transparent and accountable. The Poor and the dying do not worry about GDPR. Data Protection = Denial + Avoidance => Not Healthy!
